Adaptaions

I personally am not the biggest fan of book to movie adaptions. I don't see why every semi popular book would deserve a movie based off of it. While I think that some can be done well others should not even be attempted. For example Watchman (2009) was far two dense for some spike TV action director like Zach Snyder in my opinion at least. On the other hand their is the adaption of One flew over the Cuckoos nest (1975) was a well done adaption. I guess that it would all depend on the movie makers if they could do justice to the work

Horror

Horror is another time honored genera that was around at the dawn of movies. The king of the silent movie was Lon Chaney he is widely considered to be the best actor of the silent movie era. He stared in the 1923 adaptation of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame marking the beginning of the universal horror movies. Two years later in 1925 he would star in The Phantom Of The Opera. After his death his son Lon Chaney Jr. would pick up his mantle in 1941 with Wolf Man. He would go on to star as the "Wolfman" in every universal film of the 1940s from then on. By the 1960s the Universal horror monsters had lost their popularity but Dracula would go on to have many more adaptations. A new crease to the genera was found in zombie films one in particular The Night Of The Living Dead (1968) while it did not invent the Zombie it created the popular modren zombie of today.

Riffing

Everyone has seen a bad movie and it might be human nature to respond to something that is attacking you with mockery. While you could do this yourself for my money nobody has made an art from out of it like the creators of Mystery Science Theater 3000.Beginning in 1988 as a public access show in Minneapolis the show was pick up by comedy central just the the local station was to close. The show grew in popularity as time went by it used increasingly worse movies. Some of the more well known movies that where lampooned where Hobgoblins (1987), Monster a go-go(1965),and likely the most famous Manos The Hands Of Fate (1966). After a successful ten season run with one hundred and ninety eight episodes and a movie the show ended. Now many of the show's former actors and writers now are apart of the internet servise rifftrax which makes fun of modern movies but you have to download it from the website. But you don't have to watch or listen to anything to make fun of a bad movie its easy enough to do it on your own, I even find myself making fun of movies that I like.

Best Movie

This is an argument that movie lovers can have form time to time what is the greatest movie of all time. While some will claim that a certain movie is the best and their is no argument about it. But in all it comes down to your opinion, some common examples of movies commonly give are Citizen Kane (1941). A movie about the life of a newspaper tycoon which had a basis in the life of William Randolph Hearst. Yet another Orson Welles movie commonly listed as one of the best of all time is The Third Man (1949) a mystery movie taking place in Vienna. Another movie The Godfather (1972) along with its sequel are often called the best movies of all time. But at the end of it all the only opinion on what the best film is should be left up to the individual person. My favorite movies yes I could not choose just one. Would have to be A Clockwork Orange (1971), The Killing (1956), Fargo (1996) just to name a few.

Westerns

The western is another genera that has been around since the beginning of film. but it is no longer as popular as it once was. It along with be apart of film history its also a part of American history the genera has told many stories of the American west. For example the movie Tombstone (1993) is loosely based 0n the exploits of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday. Also theirs the Good the Bad and the Ugly (1966) which takes place during the Sibley campaign during the civil war. Their have also been westerns that have made strong political statements. Like High Noon (1952) staring Gary Cooper a film in which a marshell must face a gang of thugs by himself. This was seen as comment on the McCarthy hearings of the nineteen fifty's. In 1959 John Wayne a famous conservative responded with Rio Bravo a film with a similar plot but Wayne has people to back him up.In the 60's their was a wave of Italian director who where fan's of westerns they made what where called spaghetti westerns. The most well known of all of these directors was Sergio Leone. He made five in his career and his most well know of the Dollars trilogy staring Clint Eastwood who would go on to become a famous actor and director due to staring in these movies. But now many years later the genera is vastly underused in my opinion but their are still the movies of the past left to enjoy.

science fiction

Science fiction movies have been around for over one hundred years, one early one often recognised as an important piece of film history is A trip to the moon(1902) a french silent movie that is only fourteen minutes long in total. As movies moved on to sound and color so did science fiction along with the other tried and true genres that are still around today. In the 1950's two movie's should the highs and the lows of the genre first their was the day the earth stood still (1951) it not only had working effects for the time that it was made but it had a strong positive political message. On the other had you have the legendarily bad Plan 9 from outer space (1959) it was filmed in 1956 and it has a myriad number of flaws. First their is the opening the movie open with the narrator Criswell the well known and always wrong physic introducing the movie as grave robber's form outer space which was the movies original title but apparently the didn't feel they needed to re shoot the opening. Not only that their are numerous production mistakes, bad acting, and awful special effects. Science fiction is a very versatile genera it can do anything form make a political statement to just be a big adventure movie

a late oscar post

I haven't been able to get around to post but hear are my thoughts on the most recent academy awards. I have watch the awards in a few years and only watched this year because Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin where hosting. I would have to say that I was surprised by this years ceremony mostly because Avatar did not win best picture. I would not be faulted for making the assumption that a movie that's made billions of dollars and received a lot of critical praise would win the big award. Something I was glad to see was Jeff Bridges win his first Oscar I have not seen Crazy heart yet but i am a fan of his. But he was not the only actor to win for the first time all of the other acting award winners where first timers as well. I got to say that after watching the Oscars their are a lot of movies that I still haven't seen theirs the hurt locker, A serious man, Up in the air, and quite a few others I still haven't seen inglorious basterds. In all I would say the Oscars where alright this year also i have a lot of movies to catch up on.
